A Party
The first Wednesday of December – for several years now – I show up at 5:00, get myself situated, and wait. Soon, there’s a steady stream of patent leather shoes carrying prancing little girls and boys with Santa hats or festive sweaters… followed by moms and a few dads. This is a big night for everyone! Festive foods, design your own Christmas cookies, and mountains of presents.
But this party is different. This one’s for the homeless.
My Gift
Each year it’s been my privilege to share my gift with them: a family portrait. For nearly ninety minutes, I get to capture the faces of 20+ families… and it’s just plain delightful! Oh, the kids can be squirmy or outright difficult, but every last mom or dad takes great pride in that Kodak moment.
I’m more comfortable keeping this tradition to myself. It’s far from a marketing ploy as I’m not going to be increasing my client base here. I don’t even do it because “it’s the right thing to do”. No… I do it because I’ve been given a gift. And when you have found your gift, you want to share. Pretty simple.
So what’s your gift? If you haven’t found yours yet, keep looking. There’s a party going on. The world needs your gift… and you do, too!
People who used their gifts:

Wrappers who made it all look festive.
Bakers who made desserts and foods.
Muscles who set up for the party.
Planners who brought the whole thing together.
Musicians who entertained the guests.
Drivers who got the families to the party.
Moms who cleaned out their kids’ closets and donated the patent leather shoes and festive sweaters.
